I'm Clayton Meier

President
MuniCode Services Ltd.
Regina, Saskatchewan

What is your current job role and building code experience?

I am President of MuniCode Services Ltd., located in both the City of Regina and the City of Warman, Saskatchewan. Over my 12 year career with MuniCode Services, I have had the pleasure of working with and learning from many recognized industry leaders in the building official and building code consulting field, but also from the design and construction communities.

I have gained a unique and valuable perspective working both as an appointed official and as a code consultant, which has lead to innovative personal service goals to industry. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in and gain experience from a vast range of construction projects throughout my career, from small residential occupancies to large industrial and institutional facilities.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT OUTSIDE THE OFFICE?

Like any father, I am most passionate about family! We enjoy sports like cheerleading, hockey and soccer, and I’ve been known to take a few Friday afternoons off during the summer to enjoy some golf. I am passionate about philosophy and politics and often volunteer an opinion or two, whether solicited or not. I enjoy the genius in simple things and the complex pursuit of truth.

WHAT IMPACT DO YOU HOPE TO HAVE AT KILO LIMA?

I am excited to participate in this knowledge-sharing experiment as a creative way for me to learn and grow as a code user and as a way to share my experiences and perspectives with others.

“I believe industry generally has common goals; on time, on budget and conform to the minimum standards. Unfortunately, the path to achievement of these goals is often wide-ranging and complex.”

WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FACING THE BUILDING CODE INDUSTRY TODAY?

One of the biggest challenges facing the building code industry today is effective communication between stakeholders. I believe industry generally has common goals; on time, on budget and conform to the minimum standards. Unfortunately, the path to achievement of these goals is often wide-ranging and complex. I believe that effective communication combined with a flexible and adaptable regulatory framework that promotes trust, can bridge the gap between stakeholders and increase the possibility of success.
