Ducts in Exits?

If you enjoyed this post, we encourage you to share!

I have always interpreted Sentence 3.4.4.4.(1) as not permitting ducts to penetrate and exit fire separation as it is not a listed permitted penetration. But then I came across Sentence 6.9.2.4.(1) that states “where ducts penetrate fire separations separating exits from the remainder of the building, they shall be in accordance with Article 3.4.4.4.”

My question is: Is the provision in Part 6 an oversight? Or are duct penetrations permitted in an exit separation?
