The NATO phonetic alphabet was designed to ensure that letters and numbers could be easily pronounced and understood, despite language differences or a poor connection.
What it achieves is exactly what Kilo Lima hopes to achieve:
QUICK COMMUNICATION,
THAT IS VERBALLY PRECISE,
TO ENSURE THAT CRITICAL MESSAGES ARE UNDERSTOOD CORRECTLY.
And, of course, is a little weird and a lot fun to say.
