I'm Soman Panigrahi

Fire Protection Engineer and Code Consultant
LMDG
Toronto, ON

What is your current job role and building code experience?

My current role at LMDG‘s Toronto office involves building code consulting primarily for ICI projects, and independent/third-party code compliance review services for organizations in the transportation, public infrastructure and post-secondary education sectors. I have previously been a fire protection engineer and building code consultant based in Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto for projects across Canada.

What are you passionate about outside the office?

Weightlifting to stay active, history and languages to stay sharp, and music to stay sane!

What impact do you hope to have at Kilo Lima?

To share my perspective based on fire protection engineering and systems design, as well as working on Canadian projects of varying size, sectors and geographic location.

What are the biggest challenges facing the building code industry today?

Bridging the gap between historical building code regulations and increasingly complex projects without imposing undue hardship on their design and construction.

“I love pigs.”

What project or initiative have you heard about lately that really inspires you?

My role as a building code consultant and fire protection engineer on a new correctional healing centre in the Territories introduced me to the complexities of working in Canada’s North and on a project with a unique social impact on our communities.
